Default Extra line space when I hit return at page bottom

When I hit enter at the bottom of one of my pages the curser moves down once
as it should, and then AGAIN, creating a lot of extra space at the bottom of
my page which I do not want. I've checked the page lay out and there is
nothing wrong with vertical alignment. It's set to "top" as it should be. And
it is only happening on this one page of my document. Please help! I have a
grant application due on Monday! Thank you!

Hi Karen-

More info is needed for a reasonable solution...
What version of Word? Is this a doc you typed yourself or some kind of form
you downloaded? What do you see in the 'problem area' if you turn on the
non-printing characters (¶)? Any other detail would be helpful.

Regards |:)

Thanks for getting back to me. What it was what that "widow/orphan" was
turned on. I searched every possible word combination in "help" regarding
unwanted space at the bottom of a page. (It was a typed Word document.) Bad
enough Word assumes writers want all kinds of automatic formatting that we
don't. Worse is that they don't bother setting up the program so we can see
what the formatting is or have it linked appropriately in the help menu. But
I finally figured it out on my own. And thanks very much for getting back to
me!
