It means to stamp down, to compact, to "firm". Do you have access to a
dictionary? if not why not?

This newsgroup of not for discussing the meanings of word, but is for
Microsoft Word, a computer program.

For the meaning of words, try a dictionary, or the alt.usage.english
newsgroup.
