Default Track changes in word table problem

Whenever I try to delete a column in a table that needs to be tracked - it
gives me a message saying it will not be tracked! Anyone know why?

All I can do is delete the text so it is tracked and then just delete the
column but if it was a huge column with hundreds of rows this would take me
too long!
