We are having an issue with Word 2003 open files that are created from
templates slowly. These files take anywhere from 60 seconds to 5 minutes to
open. We have tried the hotfix from MS (article 823372), did not work, we
have tried all the suggestions in article 830561 and nothing seems to help.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

First cuplrit is removing all network drives from the tools options
file locations dialog. Then, I would clean the template.

I have been having this same problem for quite some time - so I upgraded to
word 2003 and still have the problem, documents open VERY SLOW (if at all).
However, I can open a new Word document quickly and from that point, I open
the file I need opened and it opens right up! Why?

Also, along this time, my add/remove programs list WILL NOT LIST - and I
have tried all the recommended fixes, nothing works.

I always have WIN FAX PRO running, along with outlook email, Norton's
Security/Virus/Firewall, and Webroot Spyware protection. I have tried
disabling everything on my computer to isolate the problem and nothing works.

Any suggestions?

Disable the Office Plugin that comes with Norton. See
