Hi I have Vista OS with Office 2003 Small Business 2006 installed. It was
working fine and fast. I installed HP multi-purpose printer/fax/copy/scanner
and Windows recognized it and the printer worked.

But in order to have addtional HP software (Toolbox) that interfaces with
the HP features like scanning, I had to install a new CD from HP for the
drivers to work with Vista.

After I did this Word opened very slowly, maybe 2-3 minutes and the same
slow speed when opening an existing document instead of a few seconds like
before.

So I uninstalled the HP additional drivers and Word again opens and operates
very quickly. Do you think that there is a conflict with sharing fonts are
some such thing that can be corrected? HP had no ideas and blamed MS ugh.

Since uninstalling the HP drivers help, it seems fair to blame HP (especially
if Word was not the only application affected by the issue).

Did you search the Microsoft Knowledge Base for articles on this issue?

Blame was my word, HP just said please contact MS for support, which I took
it to mean....that we don't have an answer for a Vista related problem. That
is, the problem does not occur between Word 2003 and HP printer with XP,
only with Vista.

Before I first posted I did find an article that talked about this problem
with Word 2003 if the printer was not local and with XP and earlier OS.
It involved registry work and the fonts.

I just looked and was not able to find it again. But I would not mess with
the registry settings unless I was sure it was also correct for Vista and a
local printer.
