You might look at the "Tables, fields, forms" tab at
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/index.htm. It doesn't have any articles on fields
generally but offers help on specific fields. In general a field is a way of
inserting variable information. For example, a DATE field always returns the
current date. The PAGE field gives the current page number. If you look at
the Insert | Field dialog, you will see a list of available fields, and
Word's Help will provide information about how to use any specific one. Was
there one in particular you were interested in?

Thanks for your quik reply. I am about to sit my MOS (MOUS) Word Expert
course, and the objective says "Fields" and I need to have a solid overview.

Thanks
