Default File Save Corrupted

When I updated from Microsoft, my Normal template got messed up. When I save
a file, I no longer get the name of the file in the "Save" box in the File
Save As. When I did my first document after the update, Word saved it (it
was the only option given me) in the Normal.dot. I had to delete the
document to have a Normal.dot that did not already contain a document. Now,
when I try to save I have to manually type in the file name. Before, that
name was automatically in the Save box, highlighted. What to do?
