My firm is just upgrading to 2007 and we are a heavy Styles shop. I noticed
in Word 2007 that when I try to modify the Heading style to be numbered paragraphs I don't get the option for Outline or Multilevel numbering (e.g. 1., 1.1, 1.1.1). Being that we're a law firm most of our documents are numbered that way. Is there any way for me to format Multilevels in a Style? |

It all works pretty much the same way in Word 2007 except that you can't
access the multilevel list dialog from the Modify Style dialog (a huge flaw we're hoping will be remedied in Word 2010). Instead, you have to place the insertion point in the first paragraph in the document that is in your top-level style (Heading 1, say) and go to Define New Multilevel List. The current list should be already selected, and so that's what you'll get as a starting point (you're really editing or modifying, not actually "defining"), and after that the dialog, though arranged a little differently, functions just the same as the Customize Outline Numbered List dialog in previous versions. As long as your numbering levels are linked to your styles, the changes you make will, I think, be propagated to the styles, though I suppose you can use Update to Match Selection just in case. -- Suzanne S. Thank you Suzanne, I used the Update to Match Selection and it applied it to
my style. I agree it's a huge flaw, my people are going to go nuts. Thank God I'm the in-house trainer so I can retrain and hold their hands. "Suzanne S.
