When I type a contraction, such as " don't " it often appears as " don't' "
with an extra apostrophe after the t. What causes this? |

Huh. I occasionally see that too, but I'm fairly sure I'm just typing too
fast. One possible explanation: if you type dont , Word will automatically change it to don't. If you accidentally type the apostrophe after the "t" instead of before, Word will still change the the dont to don't, and also leave your typo there. I have tried and failed to get Word to autocorrect don't' to don't. I just noticed a funny thing about AutoCorrect settings that add
apostrophes to dont, doesnt etc.: the apostrphes they add are "smart" apostrophes, slanted rather than straight, even though I don't use smart quotes/apostrophes in Word. So I recreated the "dont" setting and now the replacement is with a straight apostrophe. But now, even if I turn on the smart quotes in Word (so that all typed apostrophes come out smart), the "dont" setting produces a "don't" with a straight apostrophe So it appears that the apostrophe in an AutoCorrect replacement item does not adjust to what Word as a whole is doing. The AutoCorrect replacement apostrophe will be set to be either straight or smart. "Daiya Mitchell" wrote in message .. . Huh. The problem that I sometimes have is that Word stumbles on the AutoCorrect
and misses the next letter, so instead of don't I get don'' with one straight quote and one "smart" one. -- Suzanne S.
