Default listing of files ot spaced evenly

Ths is sort of bizzare. When I change the way my folder looks and I choose
list I get the first row of files then I have to use the horizontal arrow to
go to the next row? Last week when I used list I would get about 3 colums
per view before I had to scroll sideways. Is there something I turned on or
off to do this??

TIA

Word automatically adjusts the column width in the list display to fit the
longest filename in that folder. You must have one or more documents in that
folder with a really long name.
