I have my margins set at 2.5cm from the top and bottom and 2.5 from the left
and right. But when I open a new document, the cursor is right at the top of
the document, not 2.5 cm down. I have saved all my settings as default, and
when I check the settings in the new document they all seem correct, yet are
being ingnored.

Hi, Rose. In Word, switch to Print Layout view if you're not already in it.
Click on Tools | Options | View | check the "White space between pages" box |
OK.

I had exactly the same problem but posted it under "general questions". Your
fix worked thank you very much, but not until I had closed and reopened Word.
