Default I cant place images where I want

I want to make a collage using Word 2003, But I cant freely place images on
the page where I want. The formatting only allows them on individual lines
and in columns. Is there a way around this? Is there a better way to do what
I want?

Thanks

Right-click on an image, and left-click on Format | Layout | Square.
Repeat for each image.
