In a Word document with numbered paragraphs, I want to place Figure Nos
within certain paragraphs to refer to a picture or object in the document. I
want the number to update with each reference number, e.g. (Figure 5.1),
(Figure 5.2) and when going into the No 6 section to start (Figure 6.1),
(Figure 6.2) etc. See example below. Ive tried using LISTNUM and SEQ fields
and combining with Autotexts but with limited success. Does anyone have any
thoughts on how to do this automatic numbering within paragraphs to reflect
the example below? HELP???

Word has two features to help you accomplish this task. Captions and cross
references. Add the caption and then the cross reference. Because you
require "chapter" numbering in your figure captions, you also need to use
outline/multilievel list numbering for your headings. If you need further
directions, tell us what version of Word you are using.

Thanks Pam - I'll have a look at captions/cross-references (neither of which
I've used before) and let you know if it works for me. I use Word 2003 at
work and Word 2007 at home. At present I'm trying to sort this problem out
at home on Word 2007. Still getting used to finding where everything is as
I'm so used to Office 2003!
