Propagate nightmare
Hi,
Windows XP - Word 2003 Last week, I read the mail merge, propagate website of Suzanne Barnhill and was able to merge my Excel doc with Word but now.... I repeated the steps but am unable to find the Avery template in Word. It's a 8.5X11 sheet that you can separate in half sheets that contain 8 labels across and 5 rows. I saved an empty document with empty labels and cannot for the life of me, make the "next record" propagate... Please help me!! Thanks, Luke |

Either check with the label packaging for the part number or the Avery web
site. You can only propagate a label document that is identified as a label merge document - see http://www.gmayor.com/mail_merge_lab...th_word_xp.htm -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org Luke Williams wrote: Hi, Windows XP - Word 2003 Last week, I read the mail merge, propagate website of Suzanne Barnhill and was able to merge my Excel doc with Word but now.... Propagate nightmare
Thanks Graham but I am still unable to make my labels work! It's so
frustrating... I went on Avery's website, found and downloaded the template (11447) but when I open it, Word does not think that this document are labels. I even placed this template in the Avery subfolder of the template directory. Why is something that should be so simpled turn into a real headache. Could I send you the template from Avery? Thanks, L. "Graham Mayor" wrote: Either check with the label packaging for the part number or the Avery web site. As far as Word is concerned the Avery document is a table. You have to tell
the merge routine that it is a label document and you do that from the merge toolbar (extreme left button). This will pop up the label selector. Just cancel that and your current document will be treated as mailing labels and the propagate button will be available. It is only simple when you know how. -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org Luke Williams wrote: Thanks Graham but I am still unable to make my labels work! When I read your response, I thought that was it! Unfortunately, it did not
work. I opened the Avery template, clicked on the far left button (my Word is in French but a translation would be preparation of main document. I click that and I get the option to choose: letter, labels, etc. If I cancel, I get back to the main document. I then choose my Excel sheet to merge with and usually, I would get a NEXT in each cell, but I don't. I am able to merge labels with this excel sheet with other Avery labels chosen from what Word offers, but my size is not there.... OMG! I'm ready to throw my PC out the window (from the 16th floor, that would be messy...) Ideas? Thanks, L. "Graham Mayor" wrote: As far as Word is concerned the Avery document is a table. OK. Got it. What I did not do was when selecting the type of merge (where it
gave you, letter, fax, labels, etc.) I simply clicked CANCEL. But when I selected labels and then got to choose a type, I then clicked CANCEL and I could finally see the propagate button ! Thanks!
