Where are auto text entires stored so I can back up that file in case of a
crash.

Unless you have explicitly chosen to save them in another template, they are

AutoText is stored in templates, normal.dot by default. See
http://addbalance.com/word/movetotemplate.htm for step-by-step instructions
on moving / sharing / copying / backing-up customizations including
AutoText, AutoCorrect, keyboard assignments, toolbars, macros, etc.
