Default Editing hyperlink locks computer.

When clicking on edit hyperlink in a document that is in a folder with
hundreds of other documents, Word 2003 will lock up for a few minutes. I
think it is related to the option to show other files in this folder because
the same document will not lock up Word if it is moved to a folder with just
a few other documents.
Is there any way to turn off the feature so Word will not look for other
documents in the same folder when edit hyperlink is selected?
Thanks,

Hi Brian,

Unfortunately it's a persistent 'design' choice that persists into Office 2007. When you use the hyperlink dialog Word (and the
other Office apps) insists on reading in the full directory. One workaround is to manually use Insert=Field=Hyperlink if you
know the link you want to create.
