Default Label Gridlines

Is there a way to set the gridlines to show by default instead of always
having to go to Table - Show Gridlines.

In my experience Word remembers your last setting as to Show/Hide Gridlines
and and uses it the next time you create a table. Does this happen when you
create new tables? Or when opening documents that already have tables in
them?

In either case it defaults to no gridlines, I am using Word 2002.

Display the gridlines in the default Document1, then quit Word. When you
restart Word, it should remember the setting.
