Default Word does not insert numerical page number

I cannot get Office Word 2003 SP2 to insert the date or page numbers in the
header or footer of my documents. Excell is ok. Docs generated at work will
not display correctly at home . I have reloaded Office 2003 Pro.

While in the header using the "Header and Footer" menu with the icons and
also if I'm in the body of the doc using the "Insert " drop down menu. I have
used both methods on over 6000 pages of documents without a problem. I can
insert the date and time in the header from the "Insert" menu but I get
{DATE\@"MM/dd/yyyy"} from the "Header and Footer" menu and {PAGE} for the
page number either way.

Press Alt+F9 to switch between display of field codes (what you
see now) and field results.

How could you create 6000 pages of document without learning about field
codes? The lady doth protest too much, methinks.

Deadlines, deadlines, deadlines. The brain is like a taco - the more you
stuff in it, the more stuff falls out.
