Default How does one sort labels in Word by customer number?

I'm tyring to sort mailing labels in Word by customer number. Example:

4445555555
John Smith
333 Road St.
Anywhere, KY 99999

Is this possible? All I've been able to do is sort the first column. The
label template is Avery Standard 5160.

Thanks!

Convert your label document into a mail merge source by following the steps
at http://www.gmayor.com/convert_labels...mail_merge.htm. That produces a
table with each field (number, name, address) in a separate column and each
customer on a separate row. You can then use the merge wizard to produce
labels in the correct order (whether or not you sort the source by customer
number).
