Default Difference between File extension DOC and DOCX

I received an attached document with a DOC extension. No problems opening it
and making changes in Word 2007.
I also received an attached document with a DOCX extension. Could open it
in Word 2007 but could not make any changes.

Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Phil B.

Possibly its author set the 'docx' document as read only. Save it under a
different name as a regular document. You will be able to edit that copy.
