Default Illegal software

Technically, even though most of us have paid MS for our copies of
Office/Word etc, If it's a version that is xml capable, we are all now
using illegal software.

A US Federal court has said that Microsoft Wilfully infringed a patent by
a Canadian firm i4i (Stole someone elses intellectual property).

Well who'd believe it. ;-)

So beware, the FAST boys and girls will be knocking on your door soon. ;-)

Default Illegal software

The ruling, if upheld on appeal, bars further sales of Word 2003 and Word
2007 (commencing in 60 days) and compels Microsoft to pay a substantial
fine - however, current users of the software are not penalized and not
required to stop using it.

It's only in one state and MS will launch an appeal before the 60 day
deadline.

Terry: The federal judge is in Texas, but if you read the article, he has
issued the order to cover the entire country:

"A Judge on Tuesday ordered Microsoft to stop selling its popular Word
document creation application in the United States in 60 days"

I further understand from research that this particular district has done
things like this before when it comes to patents, and they have been
overturned.
