Default office 2007 .docx email recipients can't open, what's wrong?

I just upgraded to office 2007 & made a flyer from an office template. I
emailed it to myself and it opened but when I email it to others they say
they can't open it. How can i change the .docx to a different type of file
that others can open?

Save it as a Word 97-2003 document.

Just to expand on Suzanne's suggestion, Office 2007 .***x file formats are
not directly compatible with any prior versions of the Office apps. If the
user has any other version of the program & hasn't installed the appropriate
converters they won't be able to open the files.

It's best to do as Suzanne suggested because even with the converters your
file may not render as intended because of feature differences between 2007
& previous versions. At least if you Save As 97-2003 you'll know right off
the bat whether there is a conflict.
