I am setting up templates for reports to be written. Can I set it up in word
so that when a particular name is put in (via a drop down list) their address
is automatically linked to their name and goes into an address field?

It can be done, but will require macro code.

The best place to pursue this is in a programming (Word VBA) group. You'll need
to provide more information when you ask the

1. Version of Word
2. Where the dropdown list is to be found
3. Where you'd expect to retrieve the address information (is there an existing
database or list somewhere? If not, what kind of list would you feel comfortable
with? Think about maintaining it if information needs to be added or changed.)

If the information will come from Outlook it sounds like you might want to
try a combination of macro and macrobutton. For a very helpful MVP article
