Default In WORD 2003: Selecting "Edit/Find" doesn't display dialog box

The 'Subject' title says it all. When I select Edit then Find, I get a quick
flash and nothing happens.

It used to open a dialog box from which I could enter the text that I wanted
to find or replace.

Now, I never get to see that dialog box any more.
