Is there a way to scan a document and save it so it can be edited? I need to
change some names on a document and do not have an electric copy of it.

Scanning produces a *picture* of the scanned document unless you use Optical
Character Recognition (OCR)software to do the scan. Many scanners come
bundled with an OCR program or you can buy it separately.

You need OCR software (optical character recognition). When you scan a
document all you get is a picture, or graphic, of the document. The OCR
software looks at the graphic and recognizes individual letters, and the
result is an editable text document.
