Default Section Break trouble

I have a 1200+ page document that was "created" by another software program
and I have 2 big problems:
1. I need to have a section break (on next page) between almost each page so
that my footnotes show up at the bottom of each section. Somehow there are
about twice as many sections as pages, some say "continuous", some say
"section end," and some say "next page." I've put the document in normal
view and am attempting to delete some, change continuous to next page etc.
However sometimes when I change a continuous break to a next page break it
reverts back all by itself.
I'm going crazy, is there a way to delete all breaks in a document at once
and start over? Going page by page 1200+ times is crazy.
2. Again, for some reason all the footers are "by themselves" or not linked
to the previous one. Is there a way to link them all, all at once. Again page
by page 1200 times is nuts.
THANK

It sounds as if you're using endnotes (at end of section) when what you
really want is footnotes, which would be at the bottom of each page by
default. That would solve a lot of the problem.

Default Section Break trouble

You are correct, I am using endnotes instead of footnotes because I need the
note to show up at the end of a section rather than a page. Some sections are
more than one page long and contain several notes. I want the notes to show
up at the end of the section rather than having notes at the end of each of
the pages within the section.

Default Section Break trouble

I think Suzanne's point was that a layout design that demands a section
break every 1 or 2 pages is a bad idea, and that using footnotes instead
might tweak your design to be easier to use and maintain. It will be the
same effect for the one-page sections, and not really so different for the
two-page sections. Assuming that each section starts with some sort of
title, you can easily apply "Page Break Before" to those titles, or
preferably, to the style they are formatted in. With your current plan, any
one of those 600-900 section breaks could corrupt and cause more problems
later.

Anyhow, re deleting all breaks:
Edit | Replace, click More, click the Special menu to put Section Break in
the Find box. Replace with nothing.

I would do this ON A COPY of the document.

When you reenter the breaks, I think the footers should be linked. I forget
the rules on that.

I think a macro could link existing footers, but you would need to ask
someone else about macros/VBA.
[you may need to re-wrap these URLs if they are not clickable]
If just beginning with macros, this group is for beginners:

oft.public.word.vba.beginners&lang=en&cr=US
A search might turn up the answer.
