Default business letter date line

I use the vertical alignment feature in Word to center my letters on
letterhead. My 1st question is, when using this feature, where should I be
placing my date line? Should it still be 2 inches from the top of the paper,
2 lines from the bottom of the letterhead, or just place it and type my
letter? Which brings me to my 2nd question, how many spaces do I need to put
between the date line and the salutation?
