Default How do I lock date field so it is not updated after merge?

I am trying to digure out how to keep the date field in a mail merge main
document from being updated in a document created from the merge after the
merge. Basically, I want the document created from the merge to have the
correct date inserted when it is created but not to change the date after it
is saved. This way, when the document is opened later, it still has the date
it was created.

Hi, Dennis. Insert--Field--Date and time--Choose Create Date. Then save your
mail merge main doc as a template. Then each time you run it, "today" is the
create date, and it should not change once the files are merged.
