Default Create Adobe PDF and Error 53

Whenever I open Word 2003, I get "The Creat Adobe PDF monitor cannot be
found" message with instructions to reinstall "Create Adobe PDF". When I
close the message, I get a "Run time error 53" message. I have searched
previous comments about this problem but none solves my problem or they do
not give me enough information to correct the problem. Ideas?

But I do not have more than Adobe Reader 7 installed. Your reference is as
if I had Standard or Professional 7.0 installed.

Well, you didn't say in your original post what version of Acrobat you
have, and you still don't say what version of Acrobat you have. As the
title of the article suggests, the article applies to Acrobat versions
6.x and 7. Older versions of Acrobat don't work with Word 2003.

I have Adobe Reader 7.0 only. I do not have the software that allows me to
create Adobe files which is what I understand Adobe Standard and Professional
to be. The article addresses PDFMaker being unavailable. I do not
understand that Adobe Reader 7.0 has PDFMaker.

Reader does not have PDFMaker. Search for the PDFMaker.dot file on your
hard drive, including hidden and system files and folders, and delete
any that you find.

There are usually three reasons for this error message:
1. Acrobat (not just the Reader) was installed before Word, or
2. Acrobat (not just the Reader) was not completely uninstalled, or
3. Acrobat (not just the Reader) was not completely installed.
Can you provide details about when this error message began to appear
and what else may have changed on your computer at the time this error
message began to appear?

I think there was a very early version of Acrobat Reader that did install
some sort of Create Adobe PDF add-in in some version of Word. But it doesn't
work in later versions of Word. This add-in will need to be found and
removed.

The run-time error message indicates a problem in a macro that is being
called when Word starts. The macro is almost certainly in an add-in template
which will be in either the Word of the Office start-up folder and which
should be listed in tools templates and add-ins. That macro is looking for
software that is no longer present on your PC. Remove the add-in from the
folder.

It is just possible if you didn't set up the PC yourself, or used a
normal.dot file created by someone else, that the calling code is contained
in a macro in normal.dot with a name beginning auto.... If that is the case
you need either to remove that macro or the part of the code it contains
that attempts to call the missing file.
