Default Default Font Setting

It is my understanding that the default setting for Word 2003 is that a
document will open up on any machine in the font it is created in. However,
I have a Word 2003 document I created that is inheriting the default font of
whatever PC it is being opened at.

Does anyone know why this is happening?

This could conceivably result from a combination of two factors: (a) the
document is based on the Normal.dot template and (b) the Normal.dot template
on the second machine is set to "Automatically update document styles."
