Hello all.

How do i get the date to auto update when opening a saved document in Word
2002?

For example, I typed a document on 2/2/2006 and saved it with the date under
the address. When i reopen the document say on the 16/2/2002 I want the date
on the form under the address to automatically change to 16/2/2002. Reason
being, the form is a template and whenever i open it i want the correct date
on it before sending it out as sometimes it gets sent out with the wrong date
cos i forget!!

It sounds as if you have a "Create Date" field in your template. That would
need to be changed to a "Date" field that automatically updates.

Well you would have to open your template as a template. Look in Tools |
Options | File Locations to learn where your templates are stored.

Open the template | Highlight the date field and delete it and then click on
Insert | Field and Date and select the style you want and then save your
template.

I would say that that is not the conventional approach.

If you have a template that you want to create documents from then you
should use a CREATEDATE field in the template.

Documents that are created based on this template "will" have the
current date applied when they are created. If you save that document
and open it tomorrow, next week, or next year, it will show the date
that the document was prepared and saved and not the current date.

Using existing "documents" to revise and send new documents is not a
sound practice ;-).

No, instead of a date field in a document, you need a CreateDate field in a
template!
