Default incrementing page numbers

I have a word document with chapters and the page number is suddeenly
incrmenting in the hundreds and the thousands. There is a 'sections' button
on the bottom left of the screen. How do I get the pagination to revert to
increments of 1 (I've tried resetting page numbering).
Thanks

That's a classic sign of a corrupt document. Try the fixes detailed he

especially Save as Web Page.
