Footer format
I would like to format a footer that on the left hand to show the file name
and on the right hand side to show the page number and total pages. I know how to set the file name, page number and total pages but do not know how to configure them placing on left margin and right margin. Can someone advise how to accomplish it. Thanks, Scott |

First, set the justification to full (right and left) justification. Reset
the tabs with either the ruler or the Paragraph menu so there is only one tab, at the right margin. This tab should look like a backwards L. If there are any other tabs showing on the ruler, drag them off and they will disappear. Insert the file name at the left margin, tab to the right, and insert the page number and total pages. That's it. "Ray" wrote in message ... I would like to format a footer that on the left hand to show the file name and on the right hand side to show the page number and total pages. Nope. Justification should remain as left-justification.
There are preset tabs in the header and footer styles for center and right margin. If you have changed your page margins, you may need to adgust these. -- Charles Kenyon Word New User FAQ & Web Directory: http://addbalance.com/word Intermediate User's Guide to Microsoft Word (supplemented version of Microsoft's Legal Users' Guide) http://addbalance.com/usersguide See also the MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/ which is awesome! --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- This message is posted to a newsgroup. Footer format
The built-in Footer style (which is applied to the footer paragraph by
default) has a center tab stop at the center of the line (3" in the default Blank Document) and a right tab stop at the right margin (6"). If you have changed your margins, you will need to move these tab stops (by sliding the markers on the ruler). If you're not using the center one, you can delete it so that you need Tab only once (insert only one tab character) to get from left to right. -- Suzanne S.
