Default Format Problem

I recently upgraded to Office 2003. When opening a word document that was
created using word 2002, the page layout is not correct. Everything looks
like it has been shifted to the left. When viewing in Print Preview, the
paper looks square and all text is offset to the left. This also happens when
printed.

Sounds like you've got tracked changes in your document.

For the onscreen component, that can happen in Web Layout view. For the
printed/print preview component, that can happen if you're working in .html
format. Are these normal .doc files? If you choose File - Save As, what's
type of file is indicated?

Herb,

The original file was saved as a .doc. As this problem appears to be
happening to only one document so far. Could having the document on a network
drive be causing the problem? The document in question is appoximately 330
pages long. I did verify that the view was not in Web Layout and for the
print it was not .html.

The document contains tracked changes or comments, and Word is allowing room
in the margin for the "balloons." Either Ctrl+P to open the Print dialog and
explicitly select "Document" rather than "Document showing markup" or, on
the Reviewing toolbar, select Final view instead of Final Showing Markup
before printing.

If you want to print the markup with normal margins, disable the balloons on
the Track Changes tab of Tools | Options.

If you don't intentionally have markup in the document, on the Reviewing
toolbar, click the arrow beside Accept Change and choose Accept All Changes
in Document. Then click the arrow beside Reject Change and choose Delete All
Comments in Document.

If track changes is turned on, Tom, note that you might've accidentally
turned it on either by pressing Ctrl+Shift+E or by double-clicking the TRK
element in Word's Status Bar (at the bottom of the Word window). When
tracking is on, the TRK will be black, when it's off, the TRK will be gray.
