Default Word formatting problem -An A and @ inside of all of my parenthesi

I have an odd problem. I recieved a document that appears fine on the
sender's machine, using word and saved as a .doc file. However, when I open
the document on my PC, everywhere there are a set of parenthesis I get a
capital A inserted at the begining of the subject and then an ampersand at
the end of the parenthesis. Using the word subject it should appear like
this.... ( subject ). However, when I get it, the appearance is.....
(Asubject@). This happens everywhere there is a parenthesis in this document.

The document either was created or at least has roots in WordPerfect and has
used the WP Typographic Symbols font (instead of the built-in font
characters) for "curly quotes," dashes, etc. You could correct the way the
document appears and prints on your computer by installing this font, but a
better solution is to use Find and Replace to replace the faulty symbols
with the correct ones.
