Default Activate the fax option for mail merge

I have the default fax program that comes with win xp pro installed. I have
created a fax transporter on my outlook 2003. I have no problem sending fax
via word 2003. However, i cannot activate the fax option on my mail merge...
pls advise!!!! thanks...
