Default Loss of formatting with Excel linked object

Periodically for some unknown reason we lose our Excel linked object formats
in a large Word Document. We are using Office 2003 SP2. Does anyone have
any insight why this may occur?
Also when using paste-special there are many options available including:
Microsoft Office Excel Worksheet Object, Formatted Text (RFT), Unformatted
Text, Picture (Windows MetaFile), Bitmap, Word Hperlink, HTML Format,
Unformatted Unicode Text.
- Does anyone know the advantages/disadvantages of each paste-special option?
- Should the €śPreserve Formatting€ť Checkbox be selected when it is available?
- Why is the €śpreserve formatting€ť option not available with some of the
paste-special options?

Any Help is greatly appreciated!
