I have Word 2003 and 2007 on same computer in two different directories.
Now, when I go to format, font, and hide text under special effects, the text
won't hide if I turn off show hide.

Make sure that Hidden text is not checked on the View tab of Tools | Options
in Word 2003 or in Office Button | Word Options | Display in Word 2007.
