Default Grid on default Document in Word? Why?

I started Word 2007 for the first time in a few weeks. The default document
(document1) has a background grid on it, 1/4" x 1/4".

How do I turn it off?

BTW, if I do a new doc/blank document, I get the same thing.

On the View ribbon, in the Show/Hide group, uncheck the box for Gridlines.

Or, on the Page Layout ribbon, in the Arrange group, click Align View
Gridlines to uncheck it.
