Global Templates are not checked
We have upgraded to Word 2003. We have 10 to 12 global templates in
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\STARTUP. Occasionally a user will call saying they don't have a menu choice that they had before, etc. When I look under Tools, Templates and Add-Ins, there will be a template that does not have the checkmark by it. This has happened for more than one user, and more than one startup template. I am sure the users are not going in there and unchecking them. Does anyone know what would make a template not be checked in the Templates and Add-Ins list when you open Word if they are saved in the above location? TIA MarieJ |

I don't have an answer for you, but I could suggest that instead of putting
them in the Office Startup folder, you put them in the Word Startup folder instead. One good reason for this is that when you check the option to "Trust all installed templates and add-ins" (on the Trusted Sources of Tools | Macro | Security), macros in Word's user and workgroup template folders and the Word Startup folder are trusted, but this trust does not extend to templates in the Office Startup folder. It's possible that this alone could account for these templates' being disabled. -- Suzanne S. And Word's startup folder is typically c:\documents and
settings\%username%\application data\microsoft\word\startup? If so, I hate the roaming profiles have to carry all that around, but if that's going to resolve the problem, I'm good with it. Thanks! That sounds right; the path is shown on the File Locations tab of Tools |

You could make networked users all point to the same Word startup folder -
Tools options file locations startup, but then the problem may return, as I suspect it concerns orphaned temporary files caused by a Word crash by one or more of your users. - See http://www.gmayor.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org MarieJ wrote: And Word's startup folder is typically c:\documents and settings\%username%\application data\microsoft\word\startup? Thanks so much Graham - I'll try your batch file. (And thanks for the other
great tools you offer on your website!!)
