Fields do not update automatically; however, switching to Print
Preview updates some fields (such as SEQ fields). For a description of
the rules that apply, see:

Some fields are updated while other fields are not
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/212054/

Note that you can always force an update by selecting the entire
document (press Ctrl+A) and pressing F9. And to force an update of all
fields (even fields in headers and footers), you can use the macro in
the article at http://gmayor.com/installing_macro.htm.
