Default Concept about Creating Documents with Multiple Columns

I need to know if I change from a two-column format to a one-column format,
Word inserts a _______ ________. I cannot find the answer in my book
anywhere and it is driving me crazy. I am using the Go!with Microsoft Office
2003 Word and working though it on my own. I would like to eventually take
the M.O.S. Certification test so I need to know all I can.
Thanks.

Section break.

This is true only if you change the number of columns for *some part* of the
document, not if you change the entire document. The number of columns
always applies to an entire section.
