Default the insert date function does not work?

The help section says to type first couple letters of date and it will
automatically insert current date? It does not work? Anyone know why or how
to fix this?

Have you turned on the AutoComplete feature? On the Insert menu, point to
AutoText, and then click AutoText. Select the Show AutoComplete suggestions
check box.
