Default Editing Problem

I emailed myself a file from my job. When I go in to edit and work on it,
Word won't let me edit. The curser jumps back to the first line in the first
page. Is there a way to fix this?

Hello-

Did you email it as an Attachment or as content in the email message? It
sounds like the latter, in which case you cannot directly change the content
of _any_ email message, even if you sent it to yourself.

Use your email client's Save As feature to save a copy of the message in an
editable format, such as RTF, text, etc. You will probably lose the
formatting, but the content should be fine.

In the future, make sure to send as an Attachment & at the receiving end
save the attachment to do your editing in. Do Not just double+click the
attachment icon in the email message & go to work, or you will most likely
lose everything you do. Save your changes in the saved copy, then email it
back to youself at work if necessary.

I did send it as an attachment. I do this regularly but for some reason I
can't edit this one. I'm wondering if the person who was working on this
project at work put some sort of command in the file.

Hi Maryann ~

By any chance is this document a form that could have been protected? If
that is the case, simply click on Tools and Unprotect document. You should
then be able to edit it.

Hi Carol,

I tried to unprotect the document and it's asking for a password. Any
suggestions about how to apply a password? Would that be from my job, or
would that be on my home system? I don't mean to sound so clueless, but this
is the first time I've come across this problem. Thanks.

Hi Maryann ~

If when you clicked on Tools | Unprotect it asked for a password, then
whomever created the document protected it with a password and that is what
you will need to unprotect it.

Okay, now I'll just have to track down which employee originated this
document. We were working on it together, so I don't know why she would do
that. But you've been very helpful. Thanks.

If it's just protected for forms, you can unprotect it by using Insert |
File to insert it into a fresh document.

CTRL +Home. I am sorry for even bring this up but... are any keys sticking
down or crumbs jammed in the keyboard. I have actually seen this thing happen
from that before. It sounds weird but...
