Likely, you're not reopening that file. Likely, you're creating a document
from that file. To properly change a TEMPLATE, you must OPEN the template using File-Open, or right-click and choose Open. Double-clicking a DOT just gives you a document created from that template. Hitting save wants to save the DOCUMENT, not the template on which it is based. ************ Anne Troy www.OfficeArticles.com "Mules" wrote in message ... Anne, Thank you very much for answering my question. You are close but when I
open the .dot file and make changes and save it as a .dot file those changes are lost. "Anne Troy" wrote: Likely, you're not reopening that file. Likely, you're creating a document from that file. There is something dreadfully wrong, Mules. Perhaps it's Word. Try
troubleshooting: http://www.officearticles.com/word/s...osoft_word.htm Or... do you happen to have an on close macro in there? ************ Anne Troy www.OfficeArticles.com "Mules" ,(donotspam) wrote in message ... You still haven't answered my question. Is the template normal.dot? This
matters. -- Charles Kenyon Word New User FAQ & Web Directory: http://addbalance.com/word Intermediate User's Guide to Microsoft Word (supplemented version of Microsoft's Legal Users' Guide) http://addbalance.com/usersguide See also the MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/ which is awesome! --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- This message is posted to a newsgroup. What is it you are trying to do? Create new templates based on a template
that already has code in it, preserving that code in the new template? Note, the normal way to use a template is to create new documents based on that template, not to create new templates. Charles, I am trying to modify an existing template, not normal.dot? Does
this make any sense? This template is for User login information for a company. "Charles Kenyon" wrote: What is it you are trying to do? Saving a Template in Word 2003.
Are we talking a template or a form? (Something can be both.)
I suspect you are talking about what Word calls an "online form" because the Word term "template" doesn't especially make sense for gathering login information. For more about online forms, follow the links at http://addbalance.com/word/wordwebresources.htm#Forms or http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customizat...nTheBlanks.htm especially Dian Chapman's series of articles. You may also want to look at http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/TblsFl...nesInForms.htm. One of these links is on relocking a form without resetting form fields.
