Disabling Virus Scan?
Microsoft Windows XP (Home)
Microsoft Word 2003 SP2 Every time I launch a Word Document, or choose File New to create a new Word document, Word runs a virus scan. I have a reasonably fast 1.6 GHz PC with 1GB of RAM. The virus scan takes over a minute for a new doc. This makes no sense since the new doc is empty. What's to scan?. Don't understand which virus scan is being run. Disabled Windows antivirus scan and Windows Firewall. Am using Norton Internet Security 2005 for firewall/virus protection. How can I turn off this automatic virus scanning feature. Thank you. |

Thanks, Dian.
Followed the advice in the links you provided and Norton Office plug-in was enabled! I had disabled it months ago because of performance and comparability issues but somehow, it was re-enabled. Perhaps one of the many Live Update passes I run reset the plug-in. The Norton Office plug-in is a terrible piece of software, as is Symantec's CCAPP.EXE. The latter often consumes 95-98% of my system resources. One can't disable it without rendering the entire package dysfunctional. "Dian D. Chapman, MVP" wrote in message ... Maybe you have the Norton Office addin turned on? See this TechTrax article for some info. Granted, it's about a different version, but the info and screen shots might help. http://pubs.logicalexpressions.com/P...cle.asp?ID=109 Dian D. Disabling Virus Scan?
I too have the same problem on more than one computer. Although I use AVG free edition. I'll scope out some of the settings to see if it helps. I thought for sure I disabled the AVG altogether once, and that didn't make any difference. All of the computers I currently have never had any other anti-virus checkers on them. ______________________________________________ Bill (using a Toshiba 2595XDVD & Windows 2000) -- written and edited within Word 2000 "Uncle Joe" Uncle wrote in message ... Disabling Virus Scan?
I believe I have found the solution at: http://www.computing.net/office/wwwb...orum/4480.html regsvr32 /u "C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Free\avgoff2k.dll" It's faster and it doesn't say "requesting virus scan" anymore. ______________________________________________ Bill (using a Toshiba 2595XDVD & Windows 2000) -- written and edited within Word 2000 "BillW50" wrote in message ...
