Default how do restore original cursor movement (control-arrow) settings?

Howdy:
I'm using Word 2000 and my cursor control has somehow changed. Before,
hitting control+arrow moved the cursor one word at a time; now, for some
reason, the cursor jumps to the end of the sentence. How do I restore the
original setting--so that htting Control+arrow makes the cursor jump from one
word to the next?

Hi ?B?UGF1bA==?=,

Are you seeing this in all documents, or just a particular one?

This sounds to me as if some character other than a normal space is in there,
that Word internally isn't recognizing as a space.
