Default one PC can't keystroke shortcut the trademark symbol, I can, why?

I can readily use a keystroke shortcut for symbols such as the "Registered"
symbol by holding down Control and Alt then hitting the R key. A co-worker's
PC will not allow this. Any ideas?

Clearly, this shortcut key has been assigned to the ® symbol on your
machine. Tell the coworker to type (r) and let Word do the work (through
AutoCorrect).
