The insert page number does not work. Neither does the automatic page
numbering function when I try to do the same thing with the footer function.

Help.

Insert Page Number easily causes many more problems than it solves. I never
use it and have removed it from my menus.

What shows up in print preview?

Version of Word?

If you see { PAGE } instead of a page number, then press Alt+F9
to switch between display of field codes (what you see now) and
field results. Otherwise, please elaborate on what you mean by
"does not work", because we can't see your screen from here.
