Default Table in document corrupted

I was editing my Microsoft Word (2003) and my microsoft word crash.
The message is "A table in this document has become corrupted. To recover
the contents of the table: select the table and choose Convert Table To Text
from the Table menu."

You were warned about a problem and offered a solution by Word.
Did you try it? If not, why not?
If you did, what else is wrong?
